British Athlete of the Week: Laura Muir

British Athlete of the Week: Laura Muir

January 8, 2019 0 By jegmar

2019’s first British Athlete of the Week is arguably one of 2018’s athletes of the year – Laura Muir! She has kicked off this year with the second fastest indoor 5000m ever by a British woman, crossing the line in 14:52.02 at the BMC meeting in Glasgow. Paced perfectly to 3K in 9 minutes by Beth Potter (last week’s Athlete of the Week), Muir kicked on in the final 2K to just miss the British Record she set at this meet in 2017 by less than three seconds!

Next up for Laura is the mixed relay event at the Great Stirling Cross Country this Saturday. The focus will then turn to defending one of her titles at the European Indoor Athletics Championships at the beginning of March.

With the form she has carried into this year already, we can expect Muir to be challenging for this award many more times in 2019!
