London Marathon 2019 – Elite Field Announced

London Marathon 2019 – Elite Field Announced

January 18, 2019 0 By jegmar

Is this the strongest field ever assembled in a major marathon? The men’s line-up features the current marathon world record holder, a former marathon world record holder, the current half-marathon world record holder and a four-time Olympic champion! In the women’s race, we will see the second, third, fourth, fifth and seventh fastest women in history attempting to break Paula Radcliffe’s world record, which is now approaching 16 years old!

Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the full list of elite athletes competing in London.

Only once before have three British men broken 2:10 in the same race (London, 1985). But the 2019 London Marathon will see Mo Farah, Callum Hawkins and Dewi Griffiths all expecting to be inside that barrier. With Jonny Mellor looking to improve on his 2:12 PB and Andy Vernon making his 26.2-mile debut, could the record fall in April? Similarly, there have been five occasions where two British women have broken 2:30 in the same marathon, but never more. This year’s field features four athletes with a PB of 2:30 or quicker, meaning yet another record could be on the cards.
